Our Journey of Healing and Care

Our History

Georgian Medical Centre

Georgian Medical Centre, originally founded in 1978 as Archana Hospital, has a long-standing tradition of serving the community of Vannapuram, located in the Idukki district of Kerala, South India. Established by Dr. Selvin as a modest 10-bedded hospital, it was the only medical facility in the region, providing essential healthcare services to the rural population, including tribal communities, middle-class families, and plantation workers. At a time when access to healthcare was extremely limited in this underdeveloped area, Archana Hospital became a vital lifeline for those in need of medical care.

In 1984, the hospital was taken over by Dr. Baby Varghese Pulinattu, whose vision and dedication led to its expansion and growth. Under Dr. Baby Varghese’s leadership, the hospital expanded its capacity from 10 beds to 150 beds and introduced more advanced medical services. The facility was equipped with a well-organized casualty unit, an automated medical laboratory, and ambulance services to handle medical emergencies. These improvements further solidified the hospital’s role as a trusted healthcare provider in the region.

In 2008, Archana Hospital was rebranded as MGM Hospital, marking a significant milestone in its development. This new identity symbolized a commitment to enhancing the quality of care and expanding services to meet the growing healthcare needs of the community.

By 2022, the hospital once again embraced a new chapter in its history, adopting the name Georgian Medical Centre. This name change reflected the hospital’s ongoing evolution into a comprehensive medical institution, while still holding fast to its founding values of compassionate care, dedication to service, and commitment to improving the health and well-being of the people of Idukki.

Today, Georgian Medical Centre continues its legacy as the primary healthcare provider in the region, offering a range of medical services that cater to the needs of the local population. From its humble beginnings as a 10-bedded hospital, it has grown into a 150-bed facility, always striving to restore health, prevent disease, and promote wellness throughout the community.
